If you’re like me (pastor or not) there are times when you face discouragement. As a pastor, when I am feeling down, it is usually in regard to a message I felt I could have prepared or preached better or a number of many other things. Usually it revolves around me being too focused on me and not focused on what God has called me to in regard to pastoral ministry.
I’m thankful for men who have been there and who have stuck in there for the long haul. Successful ministry is not about numbers, but about faithfulness. When you are faithful to ministry, you are bound to be discouraged. But there is something about being faithful to ministry and, if God is gracious, it would be nice to be able to stay in one place for a long time. But you can be sure that discouragement will come.
To be honest, after Amber and I returned from Mexico, I felt a bit discouraged. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I knew it was probably because I wan’t finding my contentment in Christ. I was refreshed however, when I listened to this reflection of being in the same ministry for 30 years by Alistair Begg.
